These terms are a binding agreement covering your use of Food Scan Wise. By installing, opening, or continuing to use the app, you agree to them in full. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
Food Scan Wise lets you scan or enter a product barcode, or photograph an ingredient label, and see a plain-language score plus optional extras — allergy alerts, a "for your diet" verdict, an ingredient glossary, product comparisons, and best-before tracking. It's an informational convenience tool to help you compare products faster while shopping. Nothing more.
Everything in Food Scan Wise — scores, summaries, allergy and diet flags, ingredient explanations, expiry dates you enter, and any text read from a label by the camera — is for general information only. It is NOT medical, nutritional, dietary, allergy, food-safety, or any other kind of professional advice, and it is not a substitute for reading the actual product packaging or consulting a qualified professional such as a doctor, dietitian, or allergist.
The app does not certify any product as safe, unsafe, healthy, allergen-free, or fit for any diet, condition, or person. An allergy alert may miss an allergen, and the absence of an alert never means a product is safe for you. Automatic camera (OCR) label reading can misread or omit ingredients.
If you or anyone you shop for has an allergy, intolerance, or medical condition, you must verify every ingredient directly from the physical packaging, every time. Never rely on this app for that decision.
You use Food Scan Wise entirely at your own risk and are solely responsible for any decision you make with it, including what you buy, eat, avoid, or feed to others. You assume all risk arising from your use of the app and your reliance on anything it shows you.
Product information comes from Open Food Facts and, as a fallback, UPCitemdb — open, crowd-sourced, third-party databases that we don't operate or verify entry-by-entry. Listings can be incomplete, mislabeled, out of date, or attached to the wrong barcode, and label photos can be misread. We make no guarantee that any name, image, ingredient list, allergen, score, or other information shown in the app is accurate, complete, or current.
Food Scan Wise is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE," without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory — including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or that any information it provides will be accurate or reliable.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the developer of Food Scan Wise shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of health, profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) the app or your reliance on any information it provides — including any decision made about food, drink, cosmetics, allergens, health, or other products — even if advised of the possibility of such damages, and regardless of the legal theory.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the developer's total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the app will not exceed the greater of the amount you actually paid for the app in the twelve months before the claim, or US $0 if the app was free to you.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, you hereby release, waive, and agree not to sue or bring any claim, demand, or legal action of any kind against the developer of Food Scan Wise arising out of or relating to your use of the app or your reliance on any information it provides. You knowingly and voluntarily give up any such claims. Where a full release is not permitted by law, this section applies to the greatest extent the law allows.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the developer of Food Scan Wise from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your use of the app, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.
Please read this carefully — it affects how disputes are resolved. Any dispute or claim arising out of or relating to the app or these terms will be resolved by binding individual arbitration, rather than in court, except that either party may bring an individual claim in small-claims court where eligible. The arbitration will be conducted on an individual basis only.
CLASS-ACTION WAIVER: to the extent permitted by law, you and the developer each waive any right to bring or participate in a class, collective, or representative action, and disputes must be brought only in your or its individual capacity. If this waiver or the arbitration requirement is found unenforceable, the remainder of these terms still applies.
Use the app only for personal, lawful, informational purposes. Don't rely on it as your sole source for allergy, medical, dietary, or safety decisions. Don't attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, scrape, or abuse the app or the third-party services it queries on your behalf.
Food Scan Wise is free, with no purchases or subscription of any kind — it's supported entirely by ads served through Google's AdMob. See the Privacy Policy for what that involves. We don't control the content of any ad shown and aren't responsible for it.
The Food Scan Wise app, its design, and its scoring methodology belong to its developer. Product names, images, and data returned by Open Food Facts or UPCitemdb belong to those respective sources and their contributors.
The app and these terms may change over time — features can be added, adjusted, or removed, and this page is updated with a new date whenever the terms themselves change. When the terms change materially, the app may ask you to review and accept the updated terms again. Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the revised terms.
You can stop using Food Scan Wise at any time by simply uninstalling it — there's no account to close. We may also discontinue the app or any part of it at any time.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, USA, and, where applicable, the U.S. Federal Arbitration Act, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest remain in full force. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you may have that cannot be waived under the mandatory law of your country of residence.
